吉田兄弟ＮＹライヴ～津軽三味線にアメリカ人客が圧巻！

2010年８月３日、吉田兄弟のライヴは、アメリカのセレブも集う斬新なブティックや
ホテルなどが並ぶ、ミートパッキングエリアにある
Highline Ballroomで行われた。

テーブルもバーも席は全て埋まり、たくさんの観客が立ち見。
津軽三味線の、稲妻のように早くてシャープな音が流れると、
アメリカ人の客たちは、硬直したように動かない。

吉田兄弟が奏でる音の競演に酔いしれるというよりも、
誰もが声をあげず、引き込まれていっている。

それでも我慢できずに、
隣にいた白人男性は、時折、「おぉ～」とか、「あぁ～」などと、声をあげていた。
あまりの凄さに息をつく暇もなく、驚嘆の声となって出てくるらしい。

アート系の仕事をしているという黒人女性は、偶然居合わせたボルチモアで、
４日前に行われた彼らのコンサートを見た。

一瞬にして、彼らの音楽に心を奪われたという。

I used to play a violin myself as a kid and since then I’ve always had a fascination for music played by stringed instruments.
Seeing the Yoshida Brothers at Otakon was a stroke of luck. I hadn’t heard about them before that performance but they immediately caught my attention.
It’s an amazing treat to get a chance to hear instruments and a traditional way of making music that we can’t typically see in the US.
That alone is enough to really hook me, but I also really love the sound of the shamisen. It’s got such a strong,
clear sound and sophistication that the brothers bring an amazing energy to. And that they obviously enjoy.
I think one of the keys to enjoying a concert is being at a concert where the musicians are really getting into their music and enjoying
what they’re doing on stage which they really showed in their performances. It made watching them a lot of fun, enough fun that I went to see them again in New York~
But yeah… excellent rhythms, loved their ethnic/traditional sound, love the baseline and the stroke against the dou, and my favourite is
when they get energetic and upbeat. Its exciting~
Did I mention the brothers are also quite good looking? That’s definitely a plus~
